Sundargarh, Odisha, 07/08/2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, recently conducted a week-long initiative to promote menstrual hygiene and adolescent health among school children in rural Odisha. The programme reached over 1,100 students across 18 schools in the villages of Jamkhani, Kuraloi and Ghogharpalli, targeting children from class 6 to 10.
Designed to break taboos and foster open, age-appropriate conversations about menstruation, the sessions featured interactive learning modules tailored to help children, especially adolescent girls understand puberty and menstrual health in a respectful, informed manner. Educational tools such as ‘Menstrupedia’ booklets, heat bags and gender-sensitisation materials were distributed to make learning more interesting for the students.
Vedanta’s employees also actively participated in this sessions, creating a supportive environment where students could ask questions and learn without stigma. The initiative aimed to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to manage menstrual health hygienically and with dignity—an essential aspect of their overall well-being.
Speaking on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Educating young minds about menstrual hygiene is key to breaking myths and promoting a healthier, more inclusive society. Our commitment lies in empowering adolescents, especially girls, with the right information and resources to grow into confident, healthy individuals. This initiative is a step towards normalising menstrual health conversations in schools and communities.”
Beyond this programme, Vedanta Aluminium continues to invest in community development through initiatives in education, healthcare, women’s empowerment, and more, reinforcing its long-term commitment to social transformation and inclusive growth in Odisha and across India.
