Rayagada,14/01/2025: Tribal and Dalit communities in Odisha have voiced strong opposition to the allocation of bauxite from Kodingamali to companies outside the state. Organizations such as Kodingamali Bikash Parishad and Adivasi Mahasangh gathered at the Koraput and Rayagada Collectorates to submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister. They urged the government to prioritize local industries and fulfill promises made earlier to the region’s communities during Gram Sabha meetings.
The communities emphasized that they were assured Odisha’s bauxite would be used by industries within the state to generate employment and drive development. However, the decision to allocate these resources to an external company has left them feeling betrayed, as it undermines the region’s growth and economic progress. They believe the move contradicts the assurances provided to them and the objectives of local development.
The groups also highlighted their sacrifices, noting that they had given up their land for industrial progress under the impression that it would benefit the local population. They criticized the external company for not investing in Odisha and described the decision as unfair and detrimental to the state’s interests. They called for resource allocation policies that are fair and transparent, with a focus on benefiting the local communities.
While clarifying that their protest is not against the government, the organizations demanded the cancellation of bauxite allocations to outside companies. They urged the state to use the resources to support Odisha’s industries and fulfill commitments made to local communities. They requested immediate action within seven days to address their concerns and honor the promises made to the region.
