Kalahandi (Odisha), January 18, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, in partnership with the Ministry of AYUSH, has made a significant impact on child healthcare in Odisha through its flagship “Swarna Prashan” initiative, benefiting 22,000 students to date. Launched in September 2024, the programme focuses on promoting holistic child health using Ayurvedic principles, particularly in underserved and tribal-dominated regions.

The most recent fifth phase of the initiative successfully reached over 5,000 students, implemented across 13 government schools in Kalahandi district. The programme is designed to enhance children’s cognitive and physical development while fostering long-term well-being through age-old Ayurvedic practices.

Dr Kshetra Kand, Ayurvedic Medical Officer in Kalahandi, lauded the initiative, stating, “The Swarna Prashan programme is a significant step in promoting Ayurvedic health practices for children’s well-being. Vedanta Aluminium’s collaboration with the government and local stakeholders is creating a healthier future for the next generation.”

Echoing this, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Our commitment to child health and holistic well-being in underserved regions is strengthened through sustainable interventions like Swarna Prashan. Rooted in Ayurvedic wisdom, this initiative provides children with vital support during their formative years, nurturing both cognitive and physical growth.” He further emphasized the partnership with the Ministry of AYUSH, noting, “We are proud to extend this initiative to the most remote corners of Odisha.”

Nitin Kumar Tiwari, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium Bauxite Mines, added that the programme has been warmly received by the community. “With ongoing operations in Kalahandi and Rayagada, and plans to expand to Koraput, we aim to reach over 30,000 children aged from infants to 16 years by the end of the year. This initiative is a reflection of our long-term commitment to holistic community development.”

The programme is being implemented with strong support from District Ayurveda Departments and school administrations, under the guidance of the Government of Odisha and senior officials from the Ministry of AYUSH. Through structured administration and community engagement, the initiative ensures that children in remote areas receive consistent healthcare support.

Notably, the Swarna Prashan initiative underscores Vedanta Aluminium’s dedication to community-centric development, blending traditional knowledge with modern social responsibility. By promoting memory enhancement, immunity, and overall wellness through Ayurvedic practices, the programme aims to equip children with a strong foundation for healthy growth, benefitting families and communities in the region over the long term.

The initiative reflects a model approach for corporate social responsibility, combining scientific oversight, government partnership, and community engagement to address the health and well-being of children in tribal and underserved areas of Odisha.
