Bhubaneswar 07/02/2025: In a significant step towards women’s empowerment and economic independence, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) India has established a People’s Development Center in Nuagarh village. This initiative aims to equip women with essential vocational skills, enabling them to become financially self-reliant.
The center will provide training in horticulture, sewing, terracotta, toy making, millet-based products, processed dry food, and phenyl preparation, among other skills. Additionally, awareness programs on insurance, family counselings, child marriage, domestic violence, positive thinking, and education will help women gain confidence and social awareness.
With an expected reach of at least 600 women, the program will not only offer skill development but also entrepreneurial support, helping women establish their own businesses. To ensure sustainable growth, AM/NS India will facilitate market linkages for their products, allowing them to access larger markets and achieve financial independence.
Speaking on the initiative, Suresha G, Executive Director of AM/NS India Odisha Operations, emphasized the company’s commitment to uplifting local communities, particularly women. He highlighted that helping women generate an alternative income is a crucial step toward strengthening families and rural economies.
The center was inaugurated by Sampad Chandra, Minister of State for Industries, Skill Development, and Vocational Education (Independent) and local MLA, who praised AM/NS India’s role in creating livelihood opportunities for rural women. He also encouraged women to sell their goods and become self-reliant.
By investing in women’s skill development, AM/NS India is not only supporting individual livelihoods but also fostering a more self-sufficient and resilient community in Nuagarh.
