Bhubaneswar, February 24, 2025: Strengthening its commitment to inclusive community healthcare, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has expanded its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) services to the Kashipur block in Odisha’s tribal-dominated Rayagada district. The initiative aims to serve 21 additional remote villages, ensuring that quality healthcare reaches people living in far-flung and underserved areas.
Through this expansion, Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit will provide doorstep medical care to nearly 10,000 people in Kashipur, marking a major step toward improving rural healthcare accessibility. The program reflects Vedanta’s broader goal of empowering local communities through sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life in regions surrounding its operations.
Expressing gratitude for the company’s contribution, Dr. Netrananda Nayak, Head of the Community Health Centre (CHC), Kashipur, said, “I would like to thank Vedanta for providing quality healthcare at the doorstep of nearly 10,000 people in the Kashipur region through its Mobile Health Unit. This vital initiative will not only enhance medical access but also raise health awareness, fostering a healthier community.” His words capture the growing appreciation for Vedanta’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery in remote regions.
Reaffirming the company’s social commitment, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Vedanta Aluminium, stated, “At Vedanta, we believe that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. Our Mobile Health Units are a testament to this commitment, bringing essential medical services to some of the most underserved regions of the country. Through this initiative, we aim to create a lasting impact on the health and well-being of rural communities.”
Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit is a specialized van equipped with modern medical facilities and staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and trained medical technicians. The unit provides free medical consultations, basic diagnostic tests such as blood pressure monitoring and blood tests, distribution of essential medicines, and advice on nutrition and hygiene. These services are delivered free of cost, removing financial and logistical barriers that often prevent people in tribal and rural areas from seeking medical help.
Currently, the initiative is positively impacting over 10,000 individuals by providing accessible healthcare and spreading awareness about preventive health measures. It has also helped identify and manage common illnesses in early stages, thereby reducing the burden on local healthcare centers.
Beyond healthcare, Vedanta Aluminium continues to contribute to Odisha’s holistic development through initiatives spanning education, sustainable livelihoods, women’s empowerment, rural infrastructure, and grassroots sports. Working closely with local authorities and community stakeholders, the company ensures its social initiatives lead to measurable improvements in people’s lives.
By expanding the Mobile Health Unit services to Rayagada’s Kashipur block, Vedanta Aluminium reaffirms its vision of inclusive growth—bringing essential healthcare closer to rural households and contributing to the creation of a healthier, stronger Odisha.
