Bhubaneswar, 02.04.2025: Odisha has become an important industrial state in India because of its rich minerals and strong business environment. The metals and mining sector, especially companies like Vedanta Aluminium, has played a big role in this growth. Vedanta’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Sunil Gupta, said that the company is helping Odisha grow by creating jobs, developing skills, and protecting the environment. The company recently announced a huge investment of ₹1 lakh crore, showing its belief that Odisha can lead India’s industrial future.
Aluminium is an important metal for clean energy, and Odisha has 41% of India’s bauxite, which is used to make aluminium. This makes the state a key player in global aluminium production. Vedanta is the biggest investor in Odisha, running a large smelter in Jharsuguda and an alumina refinery in Lanjigarh. Its business has helped over 20,000 small companies grow and created many jobs. At the Utkarsh Odisha Global Investment Conclave, Vedanta announced plans to build a 3 MTPA aluminium plant and a special aluminium park in Jharsuguda. This project will bring in more than 100 small businesses and create over 2 lakh jobs.
Apart from business, Vedanta is also helping in sports, education, and healthcare in Odisha. The company owns the Kalinga Lancers hockey team and has built 531 modern Anganwadi centers (Nand Ghars) for women and children. It also provides free medical services through Vedanta Hospital in Lanjigarh. Vedanta is encouraging women to work in the metals industry with projects like India’s first fully women-run aluminium potline and the ‘Shree Shakti’ program, which allows women to work night shifts. ‘Project Panchhi’ helps young women with higher education and jobs, aiming to make 30% of Vedanta’s workforce women by 2030.
