Kalahandi, 28/04/2025: Kalahandi district in Odisha, once known for poverty and sickness, is now seeing big improvements in health, thanks to Vedanta Aluminium’s long-term efforts.
As part of their work, Vedanta Aluminium recently organized a large malaria awareness drive to mark World Malaria Day. They focused on two villages, Nakrundi and Gunpur, along with other remote areas. The event included street plays performed by experienced artists, which attracted over 380 villagers. Through the plays, people learned simple and important ways to prevent malaria, like using medicated mosquito nets given earlier by Vedanta’s Sijimali Bauxite team.
After the plays, villagers took part in discussions where they asked questions and shared their thoughts. This helped everyone understand better how to protect themselves from malaria.
Speaking about the programme, Vedanta Aluminium’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mr. Sunil Gupta said, “Good health is the key to strong communities. We don’t just provide healthcare; we also teach and encourage people to live healthier lives.”
He added, “Whether it’s fighting malaria, spreading awareness about good nutrition, promoting yoga, or teaching about cancer prevention, our goal is to create a healthy and happy community.”
In the past year alone, Vedanta Aluminium reached more than 45,000 people through health camps, vaccination drives like Swarna Prashan, and many other awareness programmes.
Thanks to continuous efforts like these, Kalahandi — once heavily affected by disease and poor healthcare — is now moving towards a healthier future.
