Bhubaneswar, 11/06/2025: Water is becoming more difficult to find in many parts of India. To help with this problem, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s biggest aluminium company, is working to improve water facilities in nearby villages, not just inside its factories. The company’s main aim is to help people get clean water for farming and daily use.
In Kalahandi, Vedanta started Project Sangam to improve water for farming. With this project, farmers now have water to irrigate 3,500 acres of land. Many ponds have been cleaned and repaired in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. These efforts have helped over 22,000 people get better access to water for farming and household needs.
Vedanta is also helping farmers save water through drip irrigation, which uses less water and helps crops grow better. With the help of NABARD, they are teaching farmers about better farming methods. The company has also set up solar-powered borewells, water purifiers, and bio-toilets in several villages, helping around 5,500 people get clean water and better sanitation.
While helping villages, Vedanta also manages water carefully in its own factories. For example, at its Jharsuguda plant, the company recycles water and uses special machines to clean it. Vedanta hopes to become Water Positive by 2030, meaning it will give back more water than it uses. Through these efforts, the company is trying to help both nature and people.
