Bhubaneswar 16.06.2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has turned its commitment to sustainability into a people powered movement. On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, Vedanta launched a massive plantation drive “Mo Gachha , Mo Parivar”, in Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, with strong participation from its employees and local people.
This campaign plans to plant over 1,00,000 fruit bearing saplings like mango, jackfruit, guava and moringa. This not only helps the environment but it also support the local people by providing them extra income through fruit harvesting.
Over 600 people including Vedanta employee, senior leaders, school children, local officials and villagers came together to start the plantation at Balabhadrapur village and the Vedanta premises, making this campaign more special. Each tree planted is treated like a family member, carrying the message of care, responsibility, and togetherness.
The plantation drive will also help fight climate change by absorbing nearly 1.5 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over the trees’ lifetime. It will improve biodiversity, protect soil, prevent erosion, and make the region more climate-resilient. At the same time, the fruit trees will create new livelihood opportunities for rural families.
Speaking about the initiative, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO – Vedanta Alumina Business, said, “At Vedanta Lanjigarh, sustainability is not just a responsibility—it’s a way of life. Through ‘Mo Gachha Mo Parivar’, we are sowing seeds of hope, unity, and prosperity.”
The plantation drive is part of Vedanta’s larger mission to support India’s climate goals while inspiring more such community-led efforts across the state and the country in the future.
