Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 8th July 2025: In many villages of Odisha, people often struggle with basic health issues because they lack information and access to proper care. To help change this, Vedanta Aluminium has been working to spread health awareness and education in 52 villages across Rayagada, Kalahandi, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts.
Through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) program, the company is not only offering free health check-ups and medicines, but also teaching people how to prevent diseases and take care of their health. In the past two years, over 2,000 health camps have been organized, reaching more than 35,000 people.
The MHU teams include doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and pharmacists. These teams travel to remote villages with medical kits and essential medicines. But the most important part of their work is the awareness sessions they conduct. These sessions cover important topics like menstrual hygiene, proper breastfeeding practices, quitting tobacco, managing chronic illnesses like diabetes, and preventing common diseases like coughs and skin infections.
In areas like Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi and Kashipur in Rayagada, many people have now learned how to take better care of themselves and their families. Health workers say that people are slowly changing their habits because they understand their health better now.
Dr. Netrananda Nayak from the Community Health Centre in Kashipur said, “This program is doing more than treating people. It is teaching them how to stay healthy, which is just as important.”
By combining medical help with health education, Vedanta Aluminium is helping build healthier and more aware communities in Odisha’s villages—one session at a time.
