In view of the ongoing driver strike, the Commerce & Transport Department, Government of Odisha, has initiated prompt and coordinated measures to ensure the smooth movement of fuel and essentials in Odisha. The focus remains on maintaining uninterrupted access to petroleum products and other critical goods throughout the state.
A high-level review meeting was convened on 9th July 2025, chaired by Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Transport, Shri Bibhuti Bhushan Jena. Senior officials, including the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police, Principal Secretaries of key departments, the Transport Commissioner, and representatives from Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), participated to assess the ground situation and formulate a coordinated strategy.
During the meeting, the Hon’ble Minister reiterated the state government’s openness to dialogue and urged representatives of the drivers’ association to consider the wider public interest and withdraw the strike.
A dedicated task force has since been constituted with officials from the Commerce & Transport Department, Odisha Police, district administrations, and OMCs. This task force is responsible for real-time monitoring and prompt resolution of disruptions, ensuring the smooth movement of fuel and essentials in Odisha. District administrations have been instructed to offer full logistical support, including police escorts for tankers and essential cargo carriers.
The Hon’ble Minister also reassured the public that there is no fuel shortage in Odisha. Oil Marketing Companies have confirmed that adequate stock is available at both depots and retail outlets. Daily replenishment and delivery operations are continuing uninterrupted at all key locations, demonstrating the government’s commitment to ensuring the smooth movement of fuel and essentials in Odisha even amid challenging circumstances.
Approximately 600 tankers are operating daily to meet the state’s fuel needs. The Government of Odisha urges citizens to stay calm, avoid panic buying, and refrain from spreading unverified information on social media.
Close monitoring at the highest level continues, with every necessary step being taken to ensure public convenience, security, and the sustained flow of essential services.
