Lanjigarh, Kalahandi, August 05, 2025 : Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has achieved a major milestone in its mission to empower rural youth, with a 92% placement success rate in the first batch of its Food & Beverage (F&B) skill development program in Lanjigarh.
Launched under the Vedanta Lanjigarh Skill Training Initiative, the program is part of the company’s broader commitment to driving sustainable, grassroots development through vocational training. Beyond job placements, the initiative is fostering digital empowerment, with every trainee completing 40 hours of IT literacy. For 90% of participants, it marked their first experience with digital education—an essential step toward creating a future-ready rural workforce.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta’s Alumina Business, emphasized the broader impact:“Skill development is a powerful catalyst for transformation. When local youth are equipped with relevant skills, they not only uplift themselves but also contribute meaningfully to the community and the economy.”
The initiative is being conducted in collaboration with the Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) and NABARD, aiming to train over 1,200 rural youth over three years. To date, 701 individuals have been successfully trained, significantly boosting household incomes and fostering economic inclusion in the region.
Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—notably SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth)—Vedanta’s skilling program also supports the national vision of Viksit Bharat, promoting rural entrepreneurship and employability.
