Lanjigarh, Kalahandi, 5th August 2025: In a significant step towards rural transformation, Vedanta Aluminium has successfully completed the first phase of its skill training program in Lanjigarh, training young people for the food & beverage sector and recording a remarkable 92% placement rate.
But the success of the initiative goes beyond employment. With 40 hours of IT training integrated into the program, it also marks a digital turning point for many rural youth—90% of whom had never used a computer before. This dual approach of skill and digital literacy is preparing the next generation for meaningful participation in India’s evolving economy.
Maheshwar Das, District Development Manager at NABARD, highlighted the deeper significance:“This program connects rural potential with real-world opportunities. Vedanta’s commitment to creating viable livelihood pathways is driving genuine, lasting change on the ground.”
Conducted in partnership with OSDA and NABARD, the training is part of a larger plan to skill over 1,200 rural youth in three years. So far, 701 youth have been trained, many now employed or engaged in entrepreneurial ventures—helping uplift not just individual lives, but entire families and communities.
The initiative is aligned with global development frameworks such as the UN SDGs and supports India’s Viksit Bharat vision, reflecting Vedanta’s strategic focus on inclusive, sustainable development.
