Bhubaneswar, Odisha, August 26, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has further strengthened its position as a leader in sustainability and responsible business by deepening its commitment to holistic community development across Odisha. With its operations touching the lives of thousands of people in the state, the company is setting benchmarks in integrating industrial growth with socio-environmental responsibility.

Globally recognised for its sustainability performance, Vedanta Aluminium ranked 2nd in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) 2024 for the aluminium industry. This recognition reflects not only the company’s emphasis on operational excellence but also its focus on building a greener, more inclusive future through people-centric interventions.

In line with its mission of driving socio-economic progress, the company has been investing in key pillars of community development, healthcare, education, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure development, and grassroots sports and cultural preservation. Initiatives such as regular health awareness programmes, doorstep medical outreach, and nutrition drives are enabling rural and tribal communities to lead healthier, more informed lives. In education, Vedanta Aluminium is actively supporting students through infrastructure upgrades, digital learning access, and remedial teaching, thereby preparing the next generation to compete in a rapidly evolving world.

“Community well-being is integral to our growth strategy,” said Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium. “Our interventions are designed not only to bridge critical gaps in healthcare, education, and livelihood but also to foster long-term resilience in communities. This integrated approach allows us to create value that extends well beyond our operations and contributes meaningfully to Odisha’s overall development while advancing sustainable business practices.”

The company’s initiatives are implemented in close collaboration with local authorities, self-help groups, and grassroots institutions, ensuring that programmes address real community needs and deliver measurable outcomes. For instance, through skill-building and livelihood promotion, Vedanta Aluminium has supported thousands of households in enhancing income opportunities in agriculture, handicrafts, and micro-enterprise. At the same time, its investment in sports training for rural youth has transformed hidden talent into state-level achievers, proving that structured support can create new pathways of empowerment.

With world-class smelters, an alumina refinery, and power assets in India, Vedanta Aluminium produces over 2.42 million tonnes of aluminium annually, contributing more than half of the nation’s total output. Its portfolio of value-added aluminium products powers critical sectors such as renewable energy, electric mobility, defence, and modern infrastructure, while simultaneously positioning aluminium as a strategic metal for a low-carbon future.

By coupling industrial excellence with a strong sense of social responsibility, Vedanta Aluminium demonstrates how businesses can serve as powerful agents of transformation. Its holistic development model, balancing economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social impact continues to reshape Odisha’s development landscape and reaffirm the company’s role as a responsible partner in nation-building.
