Bhubaneswar, Odisha; September 04th, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s leading aluminium producer, is making a positive impact on society and the economy through its VeDakshata Skill Training Centre located in Bileimunda village of Sundargarh district. So far, 87 young people from rural areas who have completed training under this programme have found jobs with well-known companies across the country, showing Vedanta’s ongoing effort to provide local youth with skills that match industry needs and support long-term livelihoods.
The VeDakshata initiative, which began in December 2024, is run in partnership with LearnNet Skills Limited, a company formed by SchoolNet India Limited and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The training centre provides free courses in three areas: sewing machine operation, electrical maintenance, and food and beverage service. In the coming three years, Vedanta Aluminium plans to train over 700 young people from communities near its coal mining sites in Ghogharpalli, Jamkhani, and Kuraloi in Odisha.
To date, 36 Assistant Electricians, 31 Sewing Machine Operators, and 20 Food & Beverages Service stewards have been successfully hired in various sectors.
These placements have greatly increased family incomes and helped young people become part of the broader socio-economic system.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, commented, “Skill development is essential for empowering youth and promoting inclusive growth.
Through VeDakshata, we are providing young people in rural Odisha with practical skills and connecting them to meaningful jobs. The success of these placements shows how this initiative is helping to close the gap between education and employment, and in building confident, independent individuals who can build their own futures.”
Vedanta’s skill training programme is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 1 – “No Poverty” and SDG 8 – “Decent Work and Economic Growth.”
It also supports the national vision of Viksit Bharat by improving job opportunities and encouraging entrepreneurship in rural areas.
