The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi recently visited neighboring country Malaysia and this two-day visit lasted from February 7 to February 8, 2026. PM Modi’s visit to Malaysia ensured that the friendship between India and Malaysia will grow further in the upcoming years.
During his visit to Malaysia, PM Modi said, “India’s success is Malaysia’s success, it is Asia’s success. That is why I say the guiding word of our relationship is IMPACT. IMPACT means India-Malaysia Partnership for Advancing Collective Transformation.” As the Indian PM attended a community programme in Kuala Lumpur, he encouraged the people of Malaysia to increase their travel to India to experience the diversity of culture.
Indian PM Narendra Modi and Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim had extensive and productive discussions on issues that covered full spectrum of bilateral relations.
Both the leaders discussed various sectors including political engagement, defense and security cooperation, maritime cooperation, trade and investment, digital economy, tourism and much more.
The Indian PM highlighted that India shared a special relationship with Malaysia and currently the country is the second largest country with Indian origin population.
In terms of Defence and Security Cooperation, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the positive outcomes of Malaysia-India Defence Cooperation Committee (MIDCOM) and its subcommittees. Both PMs condemned terrorism in any form, and this included cross-border terrorism. They urged for zero tolerance to terrorism and agreed to counter extremism as well as radicalisation.
On Education and Skill Development, both the leaders acknowledged about the large number of students in each other countries and effectiveness of programmes under the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) and Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC). PM Modi also invited students from Malaysia to explore benefits offered under ‘Study in India’ Programme.
After the meeting between two PMs of countries there was an exchange of 11 cooperative agreements and that included disaster management and peacekeeping.
