Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, highlighted the transformative power of self-help groups (SHGs) in promoting women-led development in India. Speaking to nearly 3,000 women from SHGs in Moragudi village, Andhra Pradesh, Singh underscored the significance of “women-led development” as a cornerstone of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance agenda.
“These groups are crucial in empowering rural women by advancing financial literacy, food processing, and the production of handloom and millet-based products,” Singh remarked.
Backed by central schemes like the PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME), these SHGs are seen as symbols of hope for economic self-reliance. Singh commended their efforts and encouraged further skill development through programs like SEEDAP, which aim to boost employability and entrepreneurial opportunities in the region.
Singh’s visit to Moragudi village was part of his three-day tour of YSR Kadapa under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP). His priorities during the visit included women’s empowerment, education, infrastructure, and tourism development. “The ADP has demonstrated that with focused governance and collaboration, we can uplift even the most underdeveloped regions and provide their residents with opportunities comparable to the best-performing districts in the country. This reflects the vision of our Prime Minister, who believes in an inclusive and progressive India,” Singh stated, emphasizing the ADP’s role in fostering equitable growth.
Through initiatives like the ADP, the administration remains dedicated to empowering local communities, enhancing infrastructure, and fostering innovation, creating a roadmap for sustainable progress across India. Singh also laid the foundation stone for a central kitchen at the Zilla Parishad High School in Moragudi. The facility aims to meet the nutritional needs of school children, ensuring the effective delivery of midday meal programs.
