Bhubaneswar, Feb 26: An Ammonia leakage from a cold storage facility located in Aiginia of Bhubaneswar was reported at around 01:00 AM on Thursday. The gas leak reportedly occurred at a Potato cold storage facility in the area.
Responding to the danger, the Fire Department personnel rushed to spot and took measures to contain it. The locals in the area were evacuated for safety reasons.
Reacting on the incident the DFO, BBSR said, “Tamando Fire Station, Bhubaneswar Fire Station, SFF, CR attended the call. As gas fumes were emanating from the cold storage, nearby people were evacuated from the area as a precautionary measure. Water was then sprinkled inside the cold storage to control the fumes as the gas is soluble in water. Subsequently, our team, along with the cold storage technician, entered the premises and closed the valve from where the gas was leaking. The leakage was successfully stopped.”
“The entire operation took approximately three hours and was supervised by the Fire Officer, Central Range, Cuttack,” the official added.
