Bhubaneswar, Odisha: 08/08/2025: CSIR-Institute of Minerals & Materials Technology (IMMT) recently completed a comprehensive one-month external technical training programme for Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) of Hindalco Industries Limited. This special training, held in Bhubaneswar, was designed to provide young engineers with a strong foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to help them excel in the metals and mining industry.
A total of 39 GETs from different units of Hindalco Industries Limited took part in this intensive programme. The training included classroom lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and real-time industrial exposure. The sessions covered a wide range of topics relevant to the industry, giving the young engineers a deeper understanding of the materials sector and preparing them for future challenges in their careers.
The valedictory session of the training programme was graced by several prominent personalities from the industry and research sector.
Sanjib Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of Hindustan Copper Limited, was the Chief Guest of the event. In his address, he emphasized the crucial role of copper and allied industries in India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation. He also encouraged the trainees by sharing real-world examples and insights on how young engineers can contribute to the growth of the sector.
Bibhu Mishra, Advisor to Hindalco Industries Limited, attended as the Guest of Honour. He appreciated the efforts of both CSIR-IMMT and the GETs, and encouraged the participants to apply their learnings in the field to help push the boundaries of innovation and efficiency in the industry.
Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Director of CSIR-IMMT, joined the session virtually and shared detailed insights into the various research and development activities carried out by CSIR-IMMT and CSIR as a whole. He emphasized how research institutions and industries can work hand-in-hand to achieve technological advancement and self-reliance in critical sectors.
The training programme was meticulously designed and executed under the leadership of Dr. Kali Sanjay, Chief Scientist and Business Development (BD) Head at CSIR-IMMT. He served as the Programme Chief and Coordinator, and played a vital role in planning every aspect of the training—from its technical content to the hands-on sessions.
The programme was supported by Dr. T. Pawan Kumar, the Programme Coordinator, who presented a detailed report of the training during the closing session. He highlighted the key achievements, learning outcomes, and the high level of participation from the GETs.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. L. D. Besra, Chief of the Mineral and Coal Industries Engineering (MCIE) division at CSIR-IMMT. He delivered the welcome address and acknowledged the hard work of all departments involved. Dr. Besra commended the dedication of the trainees and encouraged them to continue learning and growing in their professional journey.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was also presented by Dr. Pawan Kumar, expressing gratitude to all speakers, coordinators, and participants for making the programme a success.
