New Delhi, 20.02.2025: India is taking steps to secure more lithium, a key mineral for clean energy, by partnering with Argentina. On Wednesday, India’s state-run company, Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL), signed an agreement with the government of Catamarca, Argentina, to work together on lithium exploration and investment.
This partnership will help India find and develop lithium resources, ensuring a steady supply of this important mineral. It will also open up new business opportunities for Indian companies in South America’s mining sector.
India is already involved in lithium exploration in Argentina. Companies like Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL) and Greenko are working on projects in Catamarca. Both countries are also discussing ways to increase India’s participation in Argentina’s mining projects through investments and long-term agreements.
By sharing knowledge and improving infrastructure, this collaboration aims to boost India’s role in the global lithium market while strengthening its ties with Argentina’s resource industry.
