Bhubaneswar, 08/07/2025: Jindal (India) Ltd has announced that it has received official approval from the Odisha government to set up a new steel plant in the state. This project, which is a completely new facility, will require an investment of ₹3,600 crore. The company shared this news on Monday, saying the approval came from the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) of Odisha.
In a statement, Jindal (India) Ltd said that this new steel plant is just the beginning of a larger plan. The company is aiming to invest a total of ₹15,000 crore in Odisha in three different phases by the year 2030. The first phase, which involves the ₹3,600 crore steel plant, is expected to be completed and start operations by 2027.
This new plant will focus on making special coated steel products. To do this, it will include high-tech machines like a Cold Rolling Mill (CRM), a Continuous Galvanizing Line (CGL), and a Colour Coating Line (CCL). These machines will allow the company to produce steel sheets with special coatings, which are useful in many industries. The planned annual production capacity for these coated steel products is 9.6 lakh metric tonnes (MT).
At the same time, the company’s fully-owned subsidiary, Jindal India Steel Tech Limited (JISTL), will also be working on expanding the plant. By 2030, they aim to increase the total steel production capacity at the Odisha site to 30 lakh MT per year, specifically in the flat steel product segment.
A spokesperson from the company said that this project is not only important for growing Jindal’s manufacturing power in India but will also help reduce the country’s need to import certain types of steel. This means that more of these special steel products can be made within India instead of being bought from other countries. The new plant will also bring job opportunities to the local population and help support the state’s fast-growing industrial sector.
In addition to the steel plant, Jindal (India) Ltd also plans to build a steel pipe manufacturing unit at the same location. This pipe facility will be able to produce about 2 lakh MT of pipes each year once it is completed.
Overall, this large-scale investment by Jindal (India) Ltd shows the company’s commitment to Odisha’s development. It also highlights the growing importance of the steel industry in India’s future. With modern equipment, job creation, and plans for expansion, the new plant is expected to play a key role in boosting both the state’s and the country’s economy in the years to come.
