Bhubaneswar, 16,06,2025: On the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, a large plantation drive called “Mo Gachha Mo Parivar” (My Tree, My Family) was started in Odisha’s Kalahandi and Rayagada districts. The plan is to plant more than 1 lakh fruit trees like mango, guava, jack fruit and moringa. These trees will not only help the environment but also support over 30,000 rural families by providing fruits and extra income.
The plantation drive began with the active participation of more than 600 people, including employees, school children, government officials, and local villagers. Everyone came together at Balabhadrapur village and nearby industrial area to plant the saplings. The message behind the drive, “Mo Gachha, Mo Parivar”, means taking care of each tree as a family member.
This effort will bring many long-term benefits. The planted trees are expected to absorb around 1.5 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions during their lifetime. They will also help in protecting the soil, preventing erosion, increasing biodiversity, and restoring natural forests. The fruit trees will give villagers an extra source of income, making their lives better and more secure.
A senior official shared that sustainability is a way of life, and through Mo Gachha Mo Parivar, the aim is to bring hope, unity, and growth to the community. The project also supports India’s climate goals and may expand to other regions in the coming years.
