Bhubaneswar, 09/01/2025: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that Odisha is working towards becoming one of the top five state economies in India by 2047, when the nation celebrates 100 years of independence. Speaking at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention, Majhi said Odisha’s economy is currently valued at $100 billion, ranking 13th among Indian states. He expressed confidence that the state could grow into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047. Majhi also emphasized Odisha’s ambition to become the most preferred destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India.
To achieve this vision, the state government is focusing on strengthening its economy through initiatives like the upcoming Utkarsh Odisha business summit. Majhi highlighted the government’s focus on key industries such as renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, petrochemicals, and biotechnology. He also encouraged investments in tourism, pointing to Odisha’s natural beauty, including forests, beaches, historical sites, and the famous Chilika Lake. Majhi urged the diaspora to explore opportunities in these areas, especially in tourism, which he said has immense growth potential.
Odisha’s role in India’s “Look East” policy and Mission Purvodaya was praised by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who highlighted its trade and tourism potential and urged the diaspora to invest in the state. Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain emphasized Odisha’s investor-friendly initiatives, including the ‘Go Swift’ system, and assured strong government support for businesses to thrive.
