Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has hailed the Union Budget 2025-26 proposal of zero income tax for annual incomes up to Rs 12 lakh as a visionary move. He believes this step will empower citizens and strengthen the economy.
Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this transformative initiative, which he says will pave the way for brighter financial opportunities for all.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Odisha will benefit significantly from the Union Budget, with an increased share from central taxes. The budget size has reached a record Rs 50.65 lakh crore, aimed at benefiting every section of society, including farmers, daily wage earners, the middle class, employees, women, youth, and students.
Majhi noted that the budget includes a record capital investment of Rs 15.5 lakh crore to generate new jobs and a provision of Rs 54,832 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), which will help provide a record number of houses to the poor in Odisha.
The state’s share from central taxes is estimated at Rs 55,232 crore for 2024-25 and Rs 64,408 crore for 2025-26. This increased funding will be used for various welfare programs.
Additionally, the budget has allocated Rs 67,000 crore for the Jal Jeevan Mission Yojana, aiming to provide clean drinking water to all villages in Odisha within the next two years.
The ‘Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojana’ has been proposed to increase productivity and income for farmers in 100 districts across the country, benefiting 1.7 crore farmers. The loan limit under the Kisan Credit Card has also been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh.
Majhi emphasized that the budget fulfills the hopes and aspirations of middle-class families, with those earning Rs 12 lakh annually saving at least Rs 80,000 in taxes, further strengthening the Indian economy.
