Odisha is emerging as a global leader in aluminium production, driven by its rich bauxite reserves and strategic investments. With 41% of India’s bauxite, the state plays a crucial role in supplying this key metal for clean energy and infrastructure. Vedanta Aluminium, a major investor in Odisha, has been at the forefront of this transformation, operating large-scale facilities in Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh. The company’s recent ₹1 lakh crore investment signals confidence in Odisha’s potential to shape India’s industrial future.
The aluminium sector’s growth has also fueled economic development across the state. Vedanta’s operations have supported over 20,000 small businesses and created extensive employment opportunities. At the Utkarsh Odisha Global Investment Conclave, the company announced a 3 MTPA aluminium plant and a dedicated aluminium park in Jharsuguda. These projects are expected to attract over 100 new businesses and generate more than 2 lakh jobs, further strengthening Odisha’s industrial landscape.
Beyond industry, Vedanta is actively contributing to social progress in Odisha. It has taken significant steps in sports, education, and healthcare, from owning the Kalinga Lancers hockey team to establishing modern Anganwadi centers (Nand Ghars) for women and children. The company’s initiatives, like India’s first fully women-run aluminium potline and the ‘Shree Shakti’ program, are paving the way for greater gender inclusivity in the metals industry. Through ‘Project Panchhi,’ Vedanta is also empowering young women with higher education and career opportunities, aiming to have 30% of its workforce as women by 2030.
With its abundant resources, industrial growth, and social initiatives, Odisha is positioning itself as not just an industrial powerhouse but also a model for sustainable and inclusive development.
