Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: The Odisha Vigilance has unearthed more than Rs 4 crore during raid at the residence of Debabrata Mohanty, Deputy Director of Mines at Patia area in Bhubaneswar.
Debabrata Mohanty who is posted as Deputy Director of Mines, Cuttack Circle, Cuttack was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance yesterday for taking bribe Rs.30,000 from a licenced coal vendor. After the incident, simultaneous house searches were conducted by Odisha Vigilance at Patia in Bhubaneswar, parental house at Mathasahi in Bhadrak and his office chamber at Cuttack.
During the ongoing searches by Odisha Vigilance, cash over Rs 4 Crore concealed in trolley bags, and in almirahs has been unearthed and seized from his flat at BBSR. The cash recovered during the raid is the highest ever cash seizure in the history of Odisha Vigilance so far.
Apart from that cash worth Rs.1.20 Lakh has been recovered and seized from office drawer of Debabrata Mohanty and his possession. The assets unearthed during the raid were one palatial double storeyed building with area approx. 2400 sqft at Pahala, Bhubaneswar and gold approx. 130 gms. The investigation is underway and more details is awaited.
