Bhubaneswar, 19/08/2025: The Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), Sudhanshu Mohan Samal, conducted a detailed review of operations at the corporation’s Chrome Mine area in Sukinda, Jajpur district, accompanied by Director (Operations) Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (HR) Alok Kumar Pal, Director (Services) Bana Bihari Pani, and other senior officials. The visit focused on assessing the operational efficiency, productivity, and sustainability practices of OMC’s mining and ferro-chrome facilities.

During his tour, Mr. Samal inspected several critical sites at the South Kaliapani Mine, including the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), stockyard, chrome ore handling areas, and waste management facilities. He also visited the Pokhari, Sukarangi, and Kaliapani mining areas to evaluate the functioning of these operations and ensure adherence to quality and safety standards. According to officials, the inspection aimed to identify opportunities to enhance productivity while maintaining strict compliance with statutory regulations.

Speaking on the visit, Mr. Samal said, “Our goal is to ensure that OMC operates efficiently and sustainably. Production and sales growth must go hand in hand with maintaining quality standards and compliance. Every team member has a role to play in achieving operational excellence and contributing to the corporation’s objectives.”

The MD emphasized the importance of a transparent and streamlined sales system and encouraged officers and staff to take proactive leadership in achieving business goals. He also carried out a review of the Ferro-Chrome Plant, advising management to adopt measures to improve efficiency and competitiveness in the domestic and international markets. “Focusing on operational efficiency and strict adherence to regulations is critical for maintaining OMC’s reputation as a leading public sector mining enterprise,” he added.

Beyond production and sales, Mr. Samal highlighted the significance of sustainability in mining operations. He urged the greater use of renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, and called for initiatives to improve the ecological balance in and around mining areas. “Tree plantation drives and environmental conservation efforts are essential not only for regulatory compliance but also for the long-term health of our communities and ecosystems,” he stated.

The visit also included discussions on waste management practices and technological upgrades to improve operational efficiency. Officials said that the leadership team underlined the importance of aligning mining operations with environmental and social responsibilities while maximizing productivity.

Through this inspection, OMC reaffirmed its commitment to balancing operational growth with sustainability and corporate responsibility. By focusing on higher productivity, stronger compliance, and greener practices, the corporation aims to ensure that its mining and industrial activities benefit not only the organization but also the local communities and environment surrounding its operations.
