Rourkela, 07/04/2025: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a part of SAIL, finished the financial year 2024–25 with excellent results in both production and financial performance. With two blast furnaces running and the smart decision to shut down older, less profitable units like Hot Strip Mill-1 and the Cold Rolling Mill, the plant achieved over 4 million tonnes in hot metal, crude steel, and saleable steel production.
Blast Furnace-1 produced 9,04,017 tonnes, and Blast Furnace-5 made 31,32,316 tonnes—both reaching their highest-ever outputs. Blast Furnace-5 also had a record productivity rate of 2.57 tonnes per cubic meter per day and operated at 113% of its capacity, the best so far. Sinter Plant-3 added to the success by producing 37,20,991 tonnes of sinter, beating its previous best from 2021–22.
In the steel casting section, Caster-3 from Steel Melting Shop-2 hit a new record by producing 16,33,774 tonnes of slabs, slightly more than its last record of 16,28,366 tonnes in 2023–24. This shows how consistent and efficient RSP has been in its operations.
Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) also performed very well, rolling 26,22,704 tonnes of slabs and producing 25,56,717 tonnes of hot-rolled coils—its best-ever result. The New Plate Mill followed suit, rolling 10,37,456 tonnes of slabs and producing a record 9,31,919 tonnes of plates. These achievements highlight RSP’s strong teamwork, planning, and focus on quality production.
