Koraput (Odisha), December 14, 2024: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s leading aluminium producer, demonstrated its dedication to safeguarding Odisha’s cultural traditions by supplying crucial infrastructural support for the “PARAB-2024,” an annual festival honoring the area’s tribal and folk heritage.
Located near the Kodingamali mines in Koraput’s Laxmipur block, the festival saw over 5,000 participants and highlighted the vibrant traditions of tribal art, music, dance, and culture.
The event, led by the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Laxmipur, was graced by the presence of local MLA Mr. Pabitra Saunta as the Chief Guest, with Block Chairman Mr. Suaai Kulesika, Sarpanches, and Samiti Members from Laxmipur block in attendance as honoured guests.
Mr. Gureswar Bhoi, Block Development Officer (BDO) of Laxmipur, expressed gratitude for Vedanta’s support, saying, “PARAB is an annual festival that celebrates and preserves Odisha’s vibrant culture. I thank Vedanta for supporting grassroots cultural efforts and empowering the local community.”
This initiative empowered local artisans, self-help groups (SHGs), and students by providing a platform to showcase their skills, encouraging recognition and opportunities for growth within the community. Additionally, the company has supported impactful cultural efforts such as the world’s longest Sambalpuri theatre production in Sundargarh, World Tribal Day celebrations in Koraput, Namayagnya festivities, and the Bahuda Yatra in Jamkani. The company also honored Padma Shri awardee Jitendra Haripal for his contributions to Odia culture, particularly his popularization of Sambalpuri folk music through iconic songs like ‘Rangabati’ and ‘Chhaeli’.
