Ranchi,15/01/2025: Despite dominating possession and earning five penalty corners, the Delhi SG Pipers suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium. The Tigers’ first win in the Women’s Hockey India League came courtesy of a brilliant solo effort from Kathryn Mullan, whose 23rd-minute chip over the goalkeeper sealed the victory.
The Pipers had numerous chances but failed to capitalize on their opportunities. The closest they came to scoring was two minutes into the second half when Navneet Kaur‘s shot struck the crossbar after hitting Jennifer Rizzo‘s kickers.
Although the Tigers showed attacking intent, they were mostly held in check by a strong Pipers’ defense, which stifled their counter-attacks. Despite the loss, the Pipers’ continued struggles in front of goal left them without a single goal after eight quarters in the competition.
For the Tigers, Udita Duhan‘s leadership and Mullan’s decisive moment provided the team’s first victory in the league, marking a memorable moment for the captain on her birthday.
