Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 16th August 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, is steering a shift from treatment to prevention in rural healthcare by fostering community-driven health awareness across Rayagada and Kalahandi districts. Through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) program, the company is equipping villagers with knowledge and practices that protect families long before illnesses strike.
As part of its latest outreach, the program engaged over 1,500 residents with free malaria screenings, guidance on early symptom detection, and preventive actions such as eliminating stagnant water, proper sanitation, and safe use of mosquito nets. Recognizing the pivotal role of women, Vedanta trained 80 Self-Help Group (SHG) members from five villages on hygiene, clean water, first-aid, and snake-bite response- creating local champions of health who can guide entire communities.
The MHUs, staffed with doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and lab technicians, deliver more than just treatment. In two years, they have conducted over 2,000 health camps, reaching 20,000 people in 35 villages with medical check-ups, diagnostic services, and medicines, while instilling preventive health habits through interactive sessions.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “True healthcare begins with awareness. By embedding preventive practices at the grassroots, we are creating stronger, healthier communities equipped to manage seasonal and long-term health challenges.”
Local participant Nabin Naik shared, “Earlier, we would only seek help after falling sick. Now, we know how to avoid many problems before they happen.”
