Lanjigarh, 3rd September 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, is driving sustained healthcare transformation in rural Odisha through its flagship CSR initiative, Project Aarogya. Focused on strengthening last-mile healthcare access, the initiative annually benefits more than 60,000 people in Kalahandi district by combining mobile health services, awareness programs, and specialized health camps.
For the tribal and rural communities of Kalahandi, where healthcare facilities are often several kilometers away and accessibility is hampered by poor connectivity, Project Aarogya has emerged as a lifeline. By delivering doorstep consultations, diagnostics, and essential medicines, the initiative ensures that healthcare is no longer a distant or unaffordable service but a readily available support system for families.
In FY2025 alone, over 660 Mobile Health Unit (MHU) visits were conducted, bringing critical primary healthcare services to more than 20,500 individuals across remote villages. These MHUs, manned by qualified doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers, provide services ranging from general health check-ups to treatment of common ailments, maternal and child health support, and distribution of free medicines.
Complementing this, more than 680 community awareness sessions were organized, directly engaging over 15,000 people on topics such as nutrition, personal hygiene, safe drinking water, sanitation, and prevention of seasonal diseases. By equipping communities with knowledge and awareness, Vedanta is not only addressing immediate health concerns but also encouraging long-term behavioral changes that lead to healthier, more resilient societies.
The company also organizes regular health camps, bringing together specialists and diagnostic facilities to address needs that go beyond primary healthcare. A recent highlight was the Mega Health Camp at Kankutru Gram Panchayat, which covered 13 villages and served nearly 400 people in a single day. Residents benefited from specialized consultations, diagnostic tests, and preventive screenings, which would otherwise require travel to distant towns or hospitals.
Speaking about the initiative, Mr. Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta’s Alumina Business, said: “Community well-being is the cornerstone of sustainable development. Through Project Aarogya, we are ensuring that even the remotest villages have access to quality healthcare, reflecting our commitment to inclusive growth and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
Aligned with national priorities such as Ayushman Bharat and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Project Aarogya reinforces Vedanta Aluminium’s role as a partner in India’s developmental journey. Its interventions not only improve health outcomes but also reduce the economic burden on rural families, who often spend heavily on travel and treatment for otherwise preventable conditions.
With consistent outreach, structured interventions, and a focus on accessibility, Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen its position as a responsible development partner in Odisha’s tribal heartland—making healthcare a reality for communities that need it most.
