In a promising development for the coal industry, coal production from captive and commercial mines witnessed a substantial increase of 34.2% during the April-December period of the current fiscal year. The total coal output reached an impressive 131.05 million tonnes (MT), up from 97.665 MT in the same period last year, according to a statement from the coal ministry.
This remarkable growth is mirrored in the coal industry’s index, which climbed to 172.9 points for the April-November 2024 period, compared to 162.5 points during the corresponding period in the previous year. This 6.4% growth among the eight core industries underscores the robust performance of the coal sector.
The Index of Coal Industry (ICI) tracks the combined and individual production performance of eight key industries: cement, coal, crude oil, electricity, fertilizers, natural gas, refinery products, and steel.
