Rourkela, 28/01/2025: Soorma Hockey Club beat Kalinga Lancers 5-3 in a high-energy match in the Men’s Hockey India League 2024-25 at Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Monday. The Lancers took the lead early with a goal from Dilpreet Singh (5′), but Soorma quickly equalized. In the third quarter, Soorma scored three quick goals, including two from Harmanpreet Singh (32′, 54′) and one from Nicolas Keenan (33′). The Lancers tried to fight back, with Thierry Brinkman (44′) pulling one goal back, but Soorma’s strong attack kept them in control, and they secured the win.
The Lancers started well, creating a good chance early on, but Soorma’s goalkeeper, Vincent Vanasch, made an important save. Soon after, Dilpreet Singh scored to give the Lancers a 1-0 lead. They had another chance at the end of the first quarter, but Rabi just missed a deflection. The first quarter ended with the Lancers ahead by one goal.
In the second quarter, Soorma began to find their rhythm. They grew stronger in attack and equalized through Prabhjot Singh (26’), who scored after a pass from Harmanpreet Singh. The Lancers earned a penalty corner just before halftime, but their shot was blocked. The game went into the break with a 1-1 score.
Soorma came out strong in the third quarter. Harmanpreet Singh scored from a penalty corner to give Soorma the lead. A few moments later, Nicolas Keenan added another goal to make it 3-1. Despite a late goal from Thierry Brinkman (44’) for the Lancers, Soorma continued to press, and Maninder Singh (51’) and Harmanpreet Singh (54’) scored to extend the lead to 5-2. The Lancers got one more goal from Gursahibjit Singh (56’) but couldn’t catch up, and Soorma held on to win 5-3.
