Tata Group chairman N Chandrasekaran announced plans to create 500,000 manufacturing jobs over the next five years, signaling a “golden age” for manufacturing in India. In his New Year message, Chandrasekaran described 2024 as an unpredictable year marked by geopolitical instability and a modest improvement in the macroeconomic outlook.
Chandrasekaran highlighted the impact of political changes on global trade and technology, with tariffs becoming a key focus for leaders. He paid tribute to Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, who passed away in October 2024, recognizing his significant contributions to the group’s success.
He also celebrated the group’s achievements, including the commencement of seven new manufacturing plants, such as India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant and a solar module production facility. Additionally, the merger of Air India and Vistara into a single airline group was noted as a significant milestone.
Despite global uncertainty, Chandrasekaran emphasized the group’s commitment to delivering world-class performance, focusing on execution, customer satisfaction, technology, and safety.
