As Odisha struggles to meet its target of solarizing three lakh households under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has launched a new initiative to make solar power more affordable and accessible across the state. The ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign, rolled out by TPREL — a subsidiary of Tata Power — aims to promote widespread adoption of rooftop solar systems through flexible financing and consumer-friendly services.
🌞 Affordable Solar for All
With this new scheme, homeowners can install rooftop solar panels at highly subsidized initial costs:
-
₹2,499 for 1 kW
-
₹4,999 for 2 kW
-
₹7,999 for 3 kW
“This initiative will help turn solar adoption from an aspiration into a viable and sustainable solution,” said Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power.
“It’s the first of its kind in India and allows households to pay only one-third of the total installation cost up front.”
🔧 What’s Included in the Package?
According to Shivram Bikkina, head of TPREL’s rooftop solar and EV charging division, the program offers a comprehensive range of consumer benefits, including:
-
25-year warranty on solar modules
-
Quality assurance for all components
-
Lifetime service and after-sales support
-
Insurance coverage for rooftop systems
-
Sales and service presence in over 450 districts
-
Easy financing options, with public sector banks in discussion
⚡ Current Adoption Status in Odisha
Despite the generous central and state government subsidies, rooftop solar adoption in Odisha remains low:
-
Only 1,17,269 households have applied for the scheme
-
Just 7,130 installations have been completed
-
Tata Power serves a base of 97 lakh customers, leaving vast untapped potential
💸 Subsidies Available:
-
Up to ₹78,000 from the central government (for up to 3 kW systems)
-
Additional state subsidies:
-
₹25,000 for 1 kW
-
₹50,000 for 2 kW
-
₹60,000 for 3 kW and above

🤝 TPREL Calls for DISCOM Support
Sanjay Banga, CEO & MD of TPREL, urged the state’s four DISCOMs to actively support the rollout of the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ campaign.
“We call on power distribution companies to actively campaign and collaborate so the state can meet its solar installation goals in 2025,” he said.
With this initiative, Tata Power hopes to significantly enhance rooftop solar penetration, reduce grid dependence, and support India’s clean energy mission.
