Bhubaneswar, 10/01/2025: Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, during a meeting with Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi , announced that a proposal to establish a world-class IT training institute in Odisha is under active consideration. Chief Minister Majhi assured the Union Minister of full support, including land allocation, to bring the project to fruition.
The meeting, held during the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event, discussed plans to improve railway connectivity and grow Odisha’s IT sector. The Chief Minister asked for help in setting up a semiconductor industry and bringing more IT companies to the state. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw promised full support and said the government aims to make Odisha a Major IT Hub.
Highlighting the progress in the IT sector, Vaishnaw stated that the ‘Chip to Startup’ program is currently being implemented in four institutions — IIT Bhubaneswar, NIT Rourkela, IIIT Bhubaneswar, and Parala Maharaja Engineering College in Berhampur — to support IT startup development.
The leaders also discussed measures to ensure greater participation from Odisha in the upcoming Maha Kumbh Mela.
