23/12/2024: Recent unseasonal rainfall has caused significant crop damage in several coastal and interior districts of Odisha, including Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nawrangpur, Nayagarh, Puri, and Raygada. About 15 lakh farmers in these regions, who are enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for Kharif 2024, are encouraged to report crop loss for insurance claims. Farmers can upload their information through the “Krishi Rakshak” App or call the helpline at 14447 within 72 hours of the crop damage.
The PMFBY scheme covers post-harvest crop losses if crops are in cut-and-spread or small-bundled condition within 14 days of harvest. Insurance claims will be processed after a joint survey conducted by insurance company officials and government representatives. Farmers will receive compensation based on the insured amount. Affected farmers are urged to report the loss promptly using the app or helpline for quicker claims, and they can contact local agricultural or cooperative officers for additional support.
