Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 06/08/2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, recently conducted a week-long initiative aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene and adolescent health in rural Odisha. The programme reached over 18 schools across the villages of Jamkhani, Kuraloi, and Ghogharpalli, engaging more than 1,100 students from classes 6 to 10.
The initiative was designed to foster open dialogue and awareness around puberty, personal health, and well-being. Through interactive learning sessions, students, especially adolescent girls, were educated on menstrual hygiene, safe practices, and the importance of early health awareness. Educational materials, including Menstrupedia booklets, heat bags, and gender-sensitisation tools, were distributed to make learning both practical and engaging.
Vedanta Aluminium employees actively participated in the sessions, creating a supportive environment where students could ask questions freely and engage with the content without hesitation. The programme aimed to equip adolescents with knowledge and confidence to manage their menstrual health hygienically and with dignity, an essential aspect of overall adolescent well-being.
Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Promoting community health and hygiene is essential for building a healthier and more equitable society. Through continued and inclusive efforts, we aim to empower women and adolescents with the knowledge and resources to manage their health with dignity. This initiative reflects our deep-rooted commitment to uplifting communities through education and awareness.”
The programme also emphasised gender sensitisation, helping both boys and girls understand the social and physiological aspects of adolescence. By involving all students in open discussions, Vedanta aims to create a more informed and empathetic generation capable of challenging misconceptions and supporting peers in their communities.
This initiative forms part of Vedanta Aluminium’s broader commitment to community development, which includes education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure development, and promotion of grassroots sports and culture. Working closely with local authorities, schools, and community stakeholders, the company ensures that its interventions result in tangible socio-economic benefits, reinforcing inclusive growth in and around its operational areas.
Community leaders and school administrators welcomed the initiative, noting that such programmes help instil healthy practices, boost school attendance, and foster confidence among adolescents. Through continued engagement, Vedanta Aluminium is demonstrating its long-term commitment to social transformation and empowerment in Odisha’s rural communities.
