Bhubaneswar, Odisha, August 25, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has once again demonstrated its commitment to community health and well-being by organising a free eye screening camp at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kashipur block of Rayagada district. The camp was conducted in collaboration with the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), one of India’s premier eye health organisations, and benefitted over 165 residents from Kashipur and neighbouring villages.
The initiative was designed to address one of the most pressing yet often neglected aspects of rural healthcare—eye health. Many residents of remote tribal regions struggle with preventable or treatable eye conditions due to lack of awareness, limited access to specialists, and economic barriers. Recognising this gap, Vedanta Aluminium brought together expert doctors and paramedics to provide comprehensive eye examinations, counselling, and treatment referrals. The camp primarily focused on the early detection of cataract, pterygium, refractive errors, and other eye-related conditions, enabling timely medical intervention and reducing the risk of long-term vision loss.
The camp was inaugurated by Debabrata Mallick, Inspector In-Charge, Kashipur, in the presence of Dr. Netrananda Naik, Head, CHC Kashipur, along with local healthcare workers, community representatives, and beneficiaries. Their participation highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in improving healthcare access for underserved populations.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said: “At Vedanta Aluminium, ensuring access to quality healthcare is a cornerstone of our community development efforts. Through initiatives like this eye screening camp, we strive to bring essential medical services closer to communities that need them most. By focusing on early detection and awareness, we aim to empower people to lead healthier, more informed lives, ultimately contributing to the overall progress of the region.”
Expressing gratitude, Dr. Netrananda Naik, Head, CHC Kashipur, remarked: “This initiative has played a crucial role in bridging healthcare gaps in rural areas. Eye care is often overlooked, but poor vision can severely impact an individual’s productivity, education, and quality of life. We appreciate Vedanta Aluminium’s partnership in advancing eye health awareness and making quality care more accessible to our community.”
The camp not only provided medical support but also created an important platform to educate families about eye hygiene, regular check-ups, and the availability of affordable treatment options. For many first-time beneficiaries, the experience helped dispel misconceptions around eye health and encouraged them to seek medical advice sooner rather than later.
This initiative forms part of Project Aarogya, Vedanta Aluminium’s flagship healthcare programme, under which the company conducts mobile health unit visits, specialised health camps, awareness sessions, and partnerships with leading health institutions. Every year, the programme benefits more than 60,000 people in Kalahandi, Rayagada, and surrounding districts, reflecting the company’s focus on last-mile healthcare delivery.
Beyond healthcare, Vedanta Aluminium’s community development framework spans education, sustainable livelihoods, infrastructure, and grassroots sports and culture, reaching over 4.5 lakh people across 500 villages in Odisha. By aligning these interventions with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the company ensures that its efforts create lasting socio-economic progress.
