Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 16th August 2025: In a significant push for women-led community resilience, Vedanta Aluminium is empowering rural women in Rayagada and Kalahandi districts through its Mobile Health Unit (MHU) program. The initiative aims to make women the first line of defense against health risks by equipping them with critical knowledge on hygiene, disease prevention, and emergency care.
As part of this effort, 80 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across five villages underwent specialized training on safe water practices, household hygiene, snake bite prevention, and first-aid response. These women are now serving as health ambassadors, ensuring their communities adopt better practices for safety and well-being.
Beyond training, the program extends healthcare access to underserved areas through MHUs staffed with a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and lab technician. To date, these units have reached 20,000 residents in 35 villages, offering free health check-ups, screenings, and medicines while conducting over 2,000 awareness camps.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Empowering women with health literacy creates a ripple effect of positive change. They become influencers within their communities, fostering healthier practices and stronger resilience to challenges.”
The training has given women confidence and practical skills. Now they can guide their families and neighbours on hoq to stay safe during emergencies.
