Vedanta Aluminium has launched a tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaign in Sundargarh district, Odisha, reaching over 4,500 people in remote villages. The goal is to help people understand TB, detect it early, and get the right treatment. The company is also working to reduce the stigma around the disease and ensure patients receive proper care.
As part of this effort, Vedanta Aluminium has promised year-long nutritional support to 63 TB patients. Good nutrition helps patients recover faster along with medical treatment. The company’s Mobile Health Units (MHUs) are visiting villages to educate people about TB symptoms, prevention, and free treatment options available through government programs.
The campaign has covered several villages in the Hemgir block, including areas near the Jamkani and Ghogharpalli mines. To spread awareness, educational materials have been distributed, explaining how TB spreads, how to prevent it, and why regular check-ups are important. Local doctors and healthcare workers are also supporting the campaign to reach as many people as possible.
Dr. Abhilash Sahu, a medical officer at Bileimunda PHC, praised the initiative, calling it an important step in fighting TB in rural areas. Vedanta Coal Mines CEO Mr. David Stone said the company is committed to improving public health and helping communities fight diseases like TB. This effort is part of the Government of India’s Nikshay Mitra programme, which aims to make India TB-free by 2025.
