Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 14th August 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, launched a series of focused health initiatives during the monsoon season to improve the well-being of communities in the Rayagada and Kalahandi districts of Odisha. These initiatives are being carried out through the company’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) program as part of its broader community engagement efforts.
Over 1,500 community members received free malaria testing, guidance on identifying symptoms, and advice on preventive methods such as maintaining cleanliness, using mosquito nets, and eliminating stagnant water.
These steps are vital in preventing the spread of seasonal diseases. Additionally, a monsoon preparedness session was conducted for 80 women from five villages who belong to Self-Help Groups (SHGs). The session focused on household hygiene, access to clean drinking water, ways to avoid snake bites, and basic first aid, equipping participants with practical knowledge to protect their families during the monsoon season.
Vedanta Aluminium has provided quality healthcare to more than 20,000 residents in over 35 remote villages across Rayagada and Kalahandi districts. In the past two years, over 2,000 free health camps have been held, helping to address critical healthcare needs in underserved areas. Each MHU is a fully equipped medical van that includes a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist. These units offer check-ups, screenings, blood sugar tests, distribution of essential medicines, and regular awareness sessions on preventive healthcare.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we are committed to taking proactive steps in health interventions. Our initiatives aim not only to tackle seasonal health challenges but also to support long-term community well-being, raise awareness, and ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all. Through our Mobile Health Unit, we bring healthcare services directly to remote areas and run regular awareness sessions to help build healthier communities.”
Nabin Naik, a community member, shared, “The awareness sessions conducted by Vedanta have greatly improved our understanding of health and safety practices during the monsoon. With this knowledge, we feel more prepared to protect our families and take preventive actions.”
