Bhubaneswar, 22.03.2025: Vedanta Aluminium and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development have partnered on a Rs 1 cr project to support farmers and improve rural livelihoods in Kalahandi district. This initiative will focus on better water management and modern farming techniques to help farmers increase their income and create new job opportunities.
As part of the project, 275 water structures such as community ponds, farm ponds, and check dams will be built to provide a steady water supply for farming. Additionally, high value crops like turmeric, ginger, and marigold will be introduced across 2,380 acres of farmland. These steps will help farmers grow better crops and start small businesses.
The program also includes skill training for rural youth. Sixty young people will be trained in the ‘Food and Beverage Steward Course’ at Vedanta’s training centre in Lanjigarh, preparing them for jobs in the hospitality industry. This follows the successful training of 210 youth in the first phase of the project.
Sunil Gupta, COO of Vedanta Aluminium, said this partnership will make rural communities stronger by improving farming and job opportunities. Dr. Sudhanshu KK Mishra, CGM of NABARD, added that by working together, then they can help farmers and youth build a better future with sustainable agriculture and better skills.
