Bhubaneswar, May 13, 2025: In a continued push to improve rural infrastructure and community well-being, Vedanta Aluminium has installed 321 solar street lights across the gram panchayats of Jharpalam, Mundelkhet, Garanjore, Kuraloi, Banjari, Lakhanpur, and Belpahar in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts.
This initiative is a part of Vedanta’s wider commitment to community development in its operational regions. The solar lights have been strategically placed at village entrances, bus stands, schools, marketplaces, and community centres to enhance public safety, improve night-time mobility, and support local businesses.
Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of Vedanta Aluminium, emphasized, “Our vision of inclusive growth goes beyond business. By developing essential infrastructure in underserved regions, we aim to create a safer, more vibrant environment where communities can thrive.”
More than 10,000 villagers are expected to benefit from the installation, which also contributes to environmental conservation by reducing nearly 22 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Local leaders have welcomed the development. Mr. Sanyasi Bag, Sarpanch of Munderkhet GP in Hemgir Block, Sundargarh, said, “These lights have transformed our daily lives. The improved visibility has not only enhanced safety but also boosted confidence among villagers, especially women and the elderly.”
Vedanta’s efforts reflect its ongoing mission to empower communities through targeted development programs that align with both social needs and sustainable practices.
