Lanjigarh, Kalahandi, 13th November 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium has achieved Single Use Plastic Free Unit certification for its Alumina Refinery in Lanjigarh, Odisha, by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) under the provisions of the CII Plastics-use Protocol.

Awarded in October 2025, this certification by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) under its Plastics-use Protocol recognizes Vedanta Lanjigarh’s success in eliminating single-use plastics across its operations. This milestone demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sets a benchmark for sustainable practices in India’s manufacturing sector.

Over the past year, Vedanta Lanjigarh implemented a complete ban on single-use plastic items across operational areas and its residential township. These were replaced with eco-friendly alternatives such as biodegradable containers and cloth bags. To drive behavioral change, the company organized regular sensitization workshops and awareness drives, engaging more than 1,100 employees and 1500 business partners. As a result, the site successfully reduced plastic waste by 2,500 kg, reinforcing its pledge to minimize environmental impact.

Speaking on the achievement, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, said,
“This recognition reinforces our belief that responsible operations and business excellence go hand in hand. At Vedanta Lanjigarh, sustainability is embedded in our growth strategy, every initiative we undertake is aimed at creating long-term value while safeguarding the environment. The achievement reflects how disciplined execution and collective ownership can turn our sustainability commitments into measurable outcomes.”

Vedanta Lanjigarh continues to advance its sustainability agenda through initiatives in waste management, water conservation, biodiversity enhancement, and renewable energy integration. The company’s efforts are guided by Vedanta’s vision of ‘Zero Harm, Zero Waste, Zero Discharge’, ensuring that business growth goes hand in hand with ecological responsibility.
