Lanjigarh, Kalahandi, September 25, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has launched a unique community initiative this Navratri to celebrate the spirit of Shakti by empowering women in its peripheral villages in Lanjigarh. Under its special ‘Navratri Milap’ programme, the company is distributing over 600 ‘Shakti Kits’, directly benefitting more than 1,500 women across nine villages.
Each kit has been designed to support women’s wellbeing across three key areas – health, hygiene, and nutrition. The contents include sanitary napkins, soap, handwash and other hygiene items; millet-based sweets to improve nutrition; and iron cookware, traditionally known to help reduce anaemia. Festive essentials have also been added, underscoring the programme’s focus on care, celebration, and resilience.
The distribution is spread across the nine days of Navratri, with each day dedicated to one of the participating villages: Putribhata, Khalguda, Balabhadrapur, Kadamguda, Kendubardi, Banigaon, Similibhata, Bundel, and Chanalima. Vedanta representatives are engaging communities through activities such as rangoli-making and traditional games, transforming each distribution event into a shared celebration of culture and strength. In total, the initiative is reaching over 600 households.
Speaking on the launch, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, CEO – Vedanta Alumina Business, said, “Our community development efforts are guided by the principle that true progress must be inclusive. Navratri is a festival that embodies Shakti – strength, resilience, and care. This year, we wanted to honour that spirit by empowering women in our villages. Through the Shakti Kits, we aim to enhance health and wellbeing, while reinforcing our long-term commitment to inclusive growth. This initiative builds on our larger social impact programmes, which span healthcare, education, skill-building, and livelihood generation.”
The ‘Navratri Milap’ initiative is an extension of Vedanta Lanjigarh’s flagship community engagement platform, Community Connect – Milap, which regularly brings together company employees and local residents. Covering 16 villages and benefitting more than 3,300 people, Milap events include essential distributions, community meals, and cultural interactions that strengthen social bonds and foster shared progress.
Through such integrated programmes, Vedanta Aluminium continues to promote inclusive and sustainable development across its operational areas, empowering individuals, supporting families, and nurturing resilient communities that thrive alongside industrial growth.
