Sundargarh (Odisha), March 26, 2025: In a continued effort to improve healthcare accessibility in rural Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium launched a comprehensive tuberculosis (TB) awareness campaign in Sundargarh district, reaching over 4,500 people in remote tribal areas. The initiative, part of the company’s commitment to community well-being, aims to enhance early detection, treatment awareness, and nutritional support for TB patients.
As part of the campaign, Vedanta Aluminium has pledged year-long nutritional assistance to 63 TB patients, ensuring they receive proper sustenance alongside their medical treatment. The company’s Mobile Health Units (MHUs) played a key role in conducting awareness sessions, educating villagers on the importance of early diagnosis, prevention, and government-supported treatment facilities.
The awareness drive covered multiple villages in the Hemgir block, including areas near the Jamkani and Ghogharpalli mines. Information, Education & Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to help local communities better understand TB symptoms, treatment options, and the importance of regular check-ups.
Bileimunda PHC Medical Officer Dr. Abhilash Sahu highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Vedanta Aluminium’s TB awareness programme is a crucial intervention for rural communities. By focusing on education, early detection, and nutritional support, this drive strengthens Sundargarh’s healthcare framework and contributes to the national goal of TB elimination.”
Vedanta Coal Mines CEO Mr. David Stone emphasized the company’s commitment to public health, stating, “Community well-being is at the core of our social initiatives. This TB awareness campaign, along with our Mobile Health Units, is designed to improve healthcare outreach in rural areas and reduce the stigma surrounding tuberculosis.”
The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Nikshaya Mitra programme, which supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ by 2025.
