Bhubaneswar, 07/07/2025: Vedanta is happy to welcome the release of the National Aluminium Vision Document by the Hon’ble Minister of Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy. This important document shows the way forward for India to become a major centre for aluminium production in the world.
It focuses on key goals like increasing aluminium production within the country, using local raw materials, making eco-friendly and value-added aluminium products, and aiming to capture 10% of the global aluminium market by the year 2047. These steps will help make India more self-reliant and support its growth into a developed nation.
The document also highlights how important aluminium is for the future. Many developed countries already see it as a key material for clean energy, electric vehicles, green buildings, defence, and new technologies.
As India works to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2047, the demand for aluminium will grow quickly—six times more than it is today. To meet this need, India must boost its production from 4.5 million tonnes per year to around 37 million tonnes in the next 20 years. This will need over ₹20 lakh crore in investment.
Vedanta Aluminium CEO Mr. Rajiv Kumar said,“Aluminium is not just a metal anymore. It plays a big role in helping India achieve its clean energy and economic goals. This vision document shows that aluminium will be a key part of India’s future. If we use our natural resources wisely, we can make high-quality products and compete globally.”
Even though India is the second-largest aluminium producer in the world, it only makes 6% of the world’s aluminium. This means there is a big chance to grow the industry. Doing so could also create many jobs—up to 3.7 times more indirectly—and bring development to remote parts of the country.
Vedanta is proud to support this vision and looks forward to helping India become a world leader in aluminium by 2047.
