Bhubaneswar (Odisha), May 22, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium’s Sangam Watershed Project is bringing big changes to villages in Kalahandi, Odisha. By helping farmers grow better crops and earn more money, the project is improving the lives of thousands of rural families.
The project is running in 41 villages near Lanjigarh and supports farmers with water for farming, good-quality seeds, training, and modern farming methods. Thanks to this help, over 3,500 acres of farmland now have enough water all year round.
Krushna Chandra Mali, a sugarcane farmer from Balabhadrapur, said, “With support from the Sangam Project, my sugarcane yield has gone up by 25%. We never thought this was possible. The training, seeds, and fencing have made a big difference.”
Vedanta has also started new farming techniques like drip irrigation, vegetable farming using trellis systems, and even strawberry cultivation. Organic farming is also being promoted on 72 acres of land. Five Kisan Seva Kendras have been opened to help farmers use machines and get the support they need.
Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “This change in Kalahandi shows how teamwork and technology can improve lives. We’re not just giving water — we’re helping families build a better future through farming.”
In just one year, more than 2,500 people directly benefited from the project. Community ponds and farm ponds built under the project have improved groundwater levels, storing around 2.82 lakh cubic meters of water.
Vedanta’s Sangam Project is not just about water — it’s about giving farmers the tools and knowledge to grow, earn, and live better.
